Office sitting position analysis

There are three main types of office sitting: leaning forward, upright and leaning back.

1. Leaning forward is a common posture for office workers to operate equipment and desk work. The posture of the torso leaning forward will straighten the lumbar spine that protrudes forward, leading to its backward bending. If this position continues, the normal curvature of the thoracic and cervical vertebrae will be affected, eventually developing into a hunchback position.

2.An upright sitting posture is one in which the body is upright, with the back resting gently against the back of the chair, the pressure is evenly distributed across the intervertebral plate, the weight is equally shared by the pelvis, and the head and torso are balanced. This is an ideal sitting position. However, sitting in this position for a period of time can also cause considerable stress in the lumbar spine.

3.Lean back sitting posture is the most frequent sitting posture in work. When the torso leans back to maintain about 125°~135° between the torso and the thighs, the sitting posture also tends to the normal waist bend.

And a comfortable sitting position is to keep your thighs level and your feet propped up on the floor. In order to prevent the front of the thigh knee to bear too much pressure, in the design of office chair, seat height on the comfort of people is extremely important. Seat height refers to the distance between the highest point in front of the central axis of the seat surface and the ground. Corresponding to human scale measurement items: calf plus foot height.

Reasonable office chair design can allow people of different body types to get reasonable support in a variety of posture, as far as possible to maintain the natural curvature of the spine, so as to reduce the pressure on the back muscles and lumbar spine. The head and neck should not tilt forward too much, otherwise the cervical vertebra will be deformed. The waist should have appropriate support to reduce the pressure on the waist and abdomen.

So if the posture is not correct or the office chair is not properly designed, it can cause damage to the human body. In order to let the office workers in a healthy and comfortable office environment, an ergonomic office chair is particularly important!
